She's a Pink Warrior!

Cheri and Jeff Wooley

Diane

I have had such a blessed Sunday. Went to breakfast with my dear friend, Robert and then met the most wonderful woman and her daughter.

Diane Wiley is a sweet momma and she is so supportive of her 48 year daughter, Cheri, who is struggling with cancer for the second time. Diane is sitting at a pretty pink table in front of Bill Smith's Cafe in McKinney raising money so she and her daughter can do the Susan G. Komen 3 Day Walk for The Cure.

While standing there with her, I learned much about the walk and about her daughter.  I decided to stay because I just needed to meet Cheri.  I found out to do the walk, isn't as simple as signing up and showing up. In order to be in the walk, each participant must raise $2300.00. This money is is used for community education and outreach programs.

The walk, though rigorous in it's length, does come with benefits......you get to sleep in pink tents! There are hot showers available at the camp site and wonderful food provided and there is even nightly entertainment.

Well, that was enough for me to be impressed by Diane and Cheri, then Cheri arrived and I had a chance to talk to her and her husband, Jeff.  Great people of faith and full of positive energy, regardless of what they have been through.

Cheri and Jeff have walked this journey since July 2009, when Cheri was first diagnosed with breast cancer.  She chose a double mastectomy. She underwent chemo therapy and radiation. She lost her hair and had to have breast reconstruction surgery.  But, to see her positive and radiant smile today, you would never know.  She even has a full head of hair!  =)

Cheri shared this advise with me:  1) exercise because it will make you feel better - isn't about weight- it's about feeling better; 2) if you have dense breast tissue, request a sonogram rather than a mammogram because a sonogram can see better through the dense tissue.

Jeff shared this advise to HUSBANDS:  When you married her, you became a certified breast examiner.  *lol*  Don't be afraid to assist in that area, especially if she asks you to.

The Dallas Area Susan G. Komen Walk is November 2nd-4th and Cheri is about $900.00 short. If you are interested in helping her, please visit www.the3day.org, click Donate at the top, find participant Cheri Wooley.

Thank you all and God bless!
